Clicking heels on Flamenco-rhythms with... Montse - Dancer

1. Who are you and what is your professional passion?
Hi everyone! My name is Montse and I am a dancer. I teach Spanish Dance and Flamenco to children and adults. I love to dance and although I started studying Spanish Dance, I am fascinated by the rhythms and dances of other cultures, especially those of India. I believe that fusion is such an interesting theme, because it makes you realize how close we really are.

2. How would you characterize Madrid in three words?

  • Cosy
  • Surprising
  • Fun

3. Which are your three favourites spots in Madrid (and why)?

  • Plaza Mayor, because I love the constant coming and going of its people, of those who live here and those that don't, but make a living anyway...
  • Teatro Español for its architecture and its excellent offer of dance, music and theatre. What helps is that its prices are accessible for every purse.
  • Taberna Angosta in Calle Mancebos, because I discovered it when I'd just arrived to Madrid. It's small, cosy and its terrace is wonderful on sunny days.

4. What will you and MadWay offer the traveller?
We offer a flamenco dance workshop in which you can get closer to Spanish culture through its rhythms. I'll show you how to move your arms and wrists. We'll click our heels to feel the flamenco's energy, the grace of its "Sevillanas" (=traditional music and dance from Seville) and the taste of its "Rumbas" (=popular music and dance).
