The World of Markets

We all know that “the way to a (wo)man's heart is through his or her stomach”. Therefore, we put our five senses to work (taste, smell, sight, hearing and touch) and take you on a gastronomic trip to get to know the Latin and Spanish ingredients that influence the Mediterranean cuisine. What is the best seafood to make a “paella”? How do you prepare the “cardo” from the North? How many types of potatoes can we perceive? We’ll find all the answers (and more) in the typical covered markets of each of Madrid’s “barrios”.

The details:

  • Day & Time: Monday-Friday from 10 am until 4 pm / Saturday at 10 or 11 am
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Minimum/Maximum: minimum 2 people / maximum 15 people (every group of 15 is accompanied by two monitors)
  • Price indication: from 31 € per person (by normal bike) / 36 € per person (by electric bike), including a rental bike and a drink along the way
  • Meeting Point: Plaza de la Villa (by normal bike) / Plaza de Santiago (by electric bike)

When you visit a market in Madrid, you blend with its people. In just a short time you’ll get to know its gastronomy and its mix of nationalities. Saturday morning is the best day to go: the “madrileños” use that day of the week to do groceries and to take a traditional tapa in its bars. In every single market you’ll notice the different products as you go from one “barrio” to the other…

(A)Typical Tapas

In the hidden streets on both sides of Calle Huertas, in the heart of the neighbourhood Las Letras, lived - once upon a time - the most prominent writers of the Spanish Golden Age (like Lope de Vega). Nowadays, the most precious jewels in terms of tapas have gathered in Las Letras Reunidas. A couple of times a year, they offer the connoisseur with joint forces an alternative tapas-tour, that five of them would love to repeat especially for you. Let the special tapas - inspired by the classics, but even better - make your mouth water!

We savour tapas and wines in places you wouldn't come if you followed the normal tourist track. A must for the "good Spanish life"-lover!
