MadWay - Madrid - january 2012

Industrial Architecture

Madrid is rich in a series of buildings that testify to the industrial history of the city. Some of them have already been reborn with a new use - often cultural. One example is Caixa Forum - an old electrical plant - where the foundation with the same name develops cultural activities. Another example is Matadero Madrid, the former municipal abattoir that now shelters a cultural centre. We lead you back in time on a trip through the “barrio” dotted with renewed industrial treasures that connects the two.

The details:

  • Day & Time: Tuesday-Friday at 4 pm / Saturday-Sunday from 10 am until 4 pm
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Minimum/Maximum: minimum 2 people / maximum 15 people (every group of 15 is accompanied by two monitors)
  • Price indication: from 31 € per person (by normal bike) / 36 € per person (by electric bike), including a rental bike and a drink along the way
  • Meeting Point: Plaza de la Villa (by normal bike) / Plaza de Santiago (by electric bike)

MadWay - Madrid - january 2012

Discover Madrid like never before: this trip was definitively exhilarating, fun and a good treat, not only for tourists.

Rohit Daswani (Sat & Set - Department of Specific Courses) - Madrid - january 2010

The suprised glances at seeing 25 cycling Dutch say it all. This unusual discovery through Madrid was a enormous success. MadWay brings a bit of Holland to Spain.

Robbin Lankhuijzen (Student Spatial & Urban Planning | Hogeschool Utrecht) - Utrecht - april 2010

I felt like a tourist in my own city!

Juan Felix Ollero Bienzobas (Acciona) - Madrid - november 2009

The tour was very interesting and amazing: to visit unknown places (the Aguila’s factory), to ride a bike in a big city along unusual streets (La Latina) and making stops and listening to the stories behind the buildings!

Inés de Eusebio Rubio (Acciona) - Madrid - november 2009

How I’ve enjoyed…! Without MadWay, I’m sure I’d never have found and visited the special restaurants, Canal Isabel II, Matadero and Caixa Forum

From The Rooftops

Madrid is famous for its skies. Would you like to savour the city’s skyline and sunset from a bird eye’s view? Would you like to get away for a minute from the clamour & chaos of “ground zero” to take in some fresh air, breath in, breath out? We take you onto the buildings where you would only suspect an unremarkable façade or front door, but where we know an entire world hides behind, a world of terraces and panoramas. We open your eyes to a Spanish tapas bar on top of an ugly office building, for a relaxing sun terrace on top of a cultural centre or a tasteful restaurant on top of a dull university library.

The details:

  • Day & Time: Monday-Sunday from 11 am until 9 pm
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Minimum/Maximum: minimum 2 people / maximum 15 people (in case of more people, we suggest an activity rotation)
  • Price indication: from 30 € per person (on foot) / 37 € per person (by normal bike) / 43 € per person (by electric bike), including entrance fee to the rooftops and a drink along the way
  • Meeting Point: According to preference & availability in any place of the city center (on foot) / Plaza de la Villa (by normal bike) / Plaza de Santiago (by electric bike)
  • Information, reservation or a tailor-made proposal: Through info@madwaytomadrid.com or the following link

After almost two months in Madrid, I thought I’d already discovered most of the city on my own, until this tour took me to all these unique places that are really worth it and that usually hide themselves for the tourist. It’s a special feeling to walk into a building where you normally would never come, ending up enjoying some marvellous views and some tasty tapas among the Spanish crowd. I can really recommend MadWay to everyone!
